The first national seminar on e-learning and MOOCs (massive open online courses) was organized on Saturday in Sophia Girls’ College, in which commissioner of college education of Rajasthan government and special secretary Pradeep Kumar Boarar said that the new technology will certainly make higher education available for those who cannot afford courses of their choices.
He said that this will change the face of higher education in Rajasthan and break barriers of distance education in higher studies. This new technology will also enhance the teachers’ skills by mode of assessment and provide a platform to academicians who can provide good content writing on their subjects.
The seminar was organized by Sophia Girls’ College, in collaboration with MHRD guidelines for an educational institute to promote higher learning in keeping with the guidelines of the government.
Briefing the new technology of higher education Dr. Sister Pearl, principal of the college said that the new initiative be taken by the government in e-learning in higher education will certainly help those who cannot complete their education because courses of their choices are not available.
Program co-coordinator Dr. Monika Kannan said that the new higher education with technology will certainly change the role of teachers, higher education in India and also provide challenges and so merits to higher education. She said that the programme is initiated by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on teachers and teaching and Directorate of college education of Rajasthan remained a co-organiser.
She added that professor AK Bakshi, chairman of Guru Angad Dev Teaching learning center of MHRD also provided his views on changing scenario of higher education and the role of teachers in this change. There were four sessions in the different issues and the motive was to educate teachers and students about this new technology in higher education.
