We all read news about unemployment and blame the private sector for not providing jobs, blame the government for not stepping in. But do we consider if the unemployed individuals have the skills to get employed? At times we should because the students who stay unemployed after graduation do not have the basic skill-set to enter into the industry or get hired by MNCs or start-ups. Even a student who has good marks throughout its career gets rejected.
Vocational training is an integral part of a student’s life as it instills the specific skills required to get a good job. During vocational training, a student realizes the differences between classroom questions and real-life industry problems. They learn to solve practical problems by implementing theoretical knowledge and are trained by professionals who have decades of industry experience. Due to this, students get in-depth knowledge and acquire skills for tackling every task efficiently. At the time of recruitment, the recruiting teams prefer these trained students because they would be productive from day one at the job. And students who have done vocational training are much more confident than the students who have not.
Every work in the industry is performed by skilled professionals. For every job, there is an employee who has the relevant skills to execute a task magnificently without errors and mistakes. There are demands in the industry for such specific job roles. But the lack of skills among the students makes it impossible for the HRs to hire them.
For example, a student is good at solving codes and algorithms. But on the other hand, that student does not know how to deal with a real industry problem. Now, if the student opts for vocational training, then it gets specialized for solving industry-related problems that also increases the student’s chance to get employed. However, if the student decides to skip the vocational training then it faces the horrible situation of unemployment after graduation.
Students who pursue vocational training to uplift their skill set as par job requirement are the ones who face fewer difficulties at work after graduation. Students who face more difficulties at work are the ones who choose vocational training that is no way relevant to their careers. After working for a few days at the training center they realize that they are not suitable for the job role. Hence they quit and gets discouraged and depressed. There are students who also complete the training and later get recruited for jobs that they do not prefer. Hence, it is quintessential to select the right training for the right role. Otherwise, irrelevant training can also land a student into a situation of disguised unemployment.
Doing a vocational training could also allow a student to pursue higher education at international universities/colleges. The requirements to study at the international colleges include an average aggregate but weigh more towards a high profile vocational training. For students who want to pursue higher education and later research, vocational training could do wonders for them too! Vocational training in the field they want to study would give them the opportunity to study at their dream college/university.
Basically, vocational training is a mark of excellence in a student’s resume that has the power to undo all the non-study days from a student’s life!
