As per the Times Higher Education (THE) impact rankings that assessed the universities based on the United Nations sustainable development goals.
Pondicherry University has been placed between 101st and 200th ranks in gender equity. Even the premier institutions like IITs, IISc didn’t make it to the top 100.
None of the Indian institutions featured in the top 100 ranks in the world as per the Times Higher Education (THE) impact rankings that assessed the universities based on the United Nations sustainable development goals.
The premier institutions like Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) that featured among the top 100 universities in last year’s THE survey did not make to the top 100 this year. Last year, IISc, Bengaluru was the top Indian institute that finished 13th in the rankings followed by Indian Institutes of Technology in Bombay (26), Kharagpur (45), Kanpur (46), Roorkee (56), Delhi (63) and Madras (70).
One of the positive outcomes of this year’s survey was that Pondicherry University was placed between 101st and 200th ranks in gender equity, the best rank among the Indian institutions.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Annamalai University, Christ University, Jamia Millia Islamia, KLE University and PSG college of technology were placed between 201st and 300th rank in gender equity.
JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru was the best ranked Indian institution featuring in the 101-200 band in the overall rating while Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was placed in the 201-300 bracket. Annamalai University, Christ University, IIT (Bhubaneswar), Jamia Millia Islamia, KIIT University, KLE University, Manipal, Pondicherry University and PSG college of technology were placed in the 300+ band.
Pondicherry University was placed in the 200-250 band in the last year’s survey. University of Auckland, New Zealand finished first in the overall rating followed by McMaster University, Canada and the University of Montreal, Canada in the second and third position respectively
Times Higher Education survey evaluated the universities based on 11 rigorous indicators viz., good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, peace, justice and strong institutions and partnerships for the goals.
Times higher education magazine ranks universities every year. It is considered as one of the most widely accepted reviews of academic standards of universities.
