Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) in Tirunelveli district has bagged the fifth place in the third edition of Swachh campus ranking 2019 for higher educational institutions. Swachh Campus Ranking was initiated by the ministry of human resource and development (MHRD). The university has got the ranking under the ‘government residential universities’ category. MSU vice chancellor K Pitchumani and professor and head of the department of statistics P Arumugam received the award from R Subrahmanyam, secretary of the department of higher education, MHRD, government of India, at the awards ceremony held at AICTE auditorium in New Delhi on Tuesday.
In a statement, the VC said that a Swachhta rankings team comprising three external expert members visited the university on September 3 and inspected the campus on various stringent and diverse parameters. He said that the university was awarded fifth place among 379 state public universities in India.
The institutes were evaluated on different parameters like cleanliness within the campus, garbage management, hostel and residential areas, frequency and the procedure of disposal, any technology used for solid and liquid waste disposal, water harvesting and storage, pipeline systems and vegetation coverage and greenery in campus. He added that the team also checked clean practices in the university canteen, renewable energy use and solar panels installed on the campus, swachhta culture in campus, facilities for disabled and also the swachhta activities taken up outside campus.
