Stress on higher education in Assam

Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday said the state has a good history of higher education to inspire the faculty and other administrative staff to work, strengthen and illuminate the universities as a fountain of knowledge and learning.

Mukhi said this during a meeting with the vice-chancellors of universities of Assam.

He said vice-chancellors, as the role model in the institutions of higher learning, should work as a force multiplier to train the human resources to catalyze the development of the state as well the nation.

He asked the vice-chancellors to use their expertise to strengthen and enrich the foundation of higher education in universities and their curriculum to hone the human resources.

The governor called upon all vice-chancellors to make concerted efforts in the light of New Education Policy, 2019, to help the educated youth to be skilled on new technologies that will help them in seeking more avenues in the current dynamic changing IT world.

He also said considering the potential of New Education Policy, 2019, all stake holders should come together for framing the curriculum of higher education in sync with the new policy.

Mukhi also hoped that the information science which is thought to be constituting the crux of academic programme under the new policy will further help the students undergo their course in a new era using smart devices which will shape the future and improve the employability of the students.

He also urged the vice-chancellors to use their wisdom and infrastructure to lay out the path for transforming Indian education landscape suited to 21st century needs.

Assam education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who was present at the meeting, said Assam can be the heart of education of India as the state has the potential resources.

He also said with the advancement of science and technology new subjects needs to be studied.

“The meeting will definitely set a platform for brainstorming and make our curriculum match the global standard,” he added.
