A two-day national seminar on ‘MOOCs and Moodle: Challenges and opportunities in higher education was organised by the Dr D Y Patil School of engineering in association with Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi recently.
A statement issued by the college said that, the seminar involved instructing teachers on how to teach in an effective manner using MOOCS and Moodle method while teaching. MOOCs is MOOC – Massive Open Online Course while Moodle is a free and open-source learning management system.
The statement added, on first day, Prof SS Das from IIT Kharagpur gave detailed guidance on the impact of National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning on self-sufficiency, needs of MOOCs, challenges and opportunities among others.

Prof. Anika Thapar gave effective tips for creating MOOCs video with practical demonstration. On the second day of the seminar, Prof. Sunthar from IIT Bombay guided the participants regarding the usage of Moodle in admission tests and exams. At the end, Dr. Vinay Kulkarni told the gathering about usage of MOOCs for effective teaching from students point of view.
Dr M Z Shaikh, principal of institute guided the audience and encouraged them to use MOOCs while teaching. Dr. F. B. Sayyad coordinated the entire seminar. More than 150 professors from various colleges attended the seminar, said the statement.
