Over 6000 aspirants appeared for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main Paper I for admission to BTech/ BE courses on Tuesday at three centres in city. The examination was conducted in two shifts.
The aspirants found the paper easy to moderate. The exam was of 300 marks and divided into three sections- physics, chemistry and mathematics – with total 75 questions. Last year, a total of 90 questions were asked.
For many candidates chemistry was easy and questions were based on National Council of Educational Research Training (NCERT) syllabus. “Chemistry had more inorganic questions as compared to organic. Chemistry in everyday life turned out to be an important chapter,” said an aspirant Bhumika Mehta.
The reactions asked in chemistry were from syllabus of NCERT only. Questions in physics were easily solvable. Numericals did not involve a lot of calculation, she added.

In physics, questions were asked from syllabus of Class 11 and 12. While 55 % was from Class 11 books, 45% was from Class 12. Mathematics was lengthy and couldn’t be solved in a span of one hour, said aspirants.
An expert Atil Arora said, some questions from unexpected portions that required information about structures of compounds were asked this time. “Be sure to read about structures of compounds thoroughly and memorize every structure as well. Also remember to memorize all amino acids with structures,” he added.
Questions from topics including biomolecules, EM waves, optical instruments and environmental chemistry, were also asked. “Difficulty level of first shift paper was similar to that of last year’s January and April papers,” said another expert Vijit Jain.
