IGNOU allows scanned assignment copy submission, last date April 30

assignment

Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) will now accept scanned copies of assignments via email so students do not visit study centres to submit them before the April 30 deadline. The assignment submission is a mandatory pre-condition to appear for year/semester end exam.

The tutor marked assignments (TMA) are crucial part of Ignou’s distance learning programmes. They have to be handwritten and the question format and marking scheme resembles the one to be used in actual exam. Purpose of TMA is to check whether the student has understood the contents of study material.

P Sivaswaroop, regional director of Ignou, said, “We have informed our coordinators and staff that students are permitted to submit scanned copies of hand written assignments through email. Evaluation methods for such e-assignments was explained to them.”

The earlier March 31 submission deadline for assignments had been extended by a month due to the lockdown in state and later across the country. The term-end examinations are usually held in June/July for which no details have been released yet.

Students would usually flock to study centres to get clarifications on study materials and topics which is not possible due to lockdown. For this, Ignou had last week stepped up its online and radio outreach programme. Gyan Vani FM Radio (105.6 MHz) will be organizing phone-in counselling programme for the Environmental Studies Course (BEVAE-101) for three days from April 7-9 from 9am-10am. Telephone number to interact during this period is 0712-2510002.

Ignou’s Nagpur regional centre is also adopting various methods to communicate with students and study centre functionaries. “Live induction meeting was held through Facebook for students spread across the region, which covers entire Vidarbha. Sivaswaroop and assistant regional director B Sasicoumar explained about Ignou and the study and evaluation process. Students were also informed about various methods to keep themselves safe from Covid-19 by maintaining hygiene and practising social distancing.
