Allahabad University’s (AU) examination committee decided to go ahead with completing the examination process for all UG and PG courses, which was stopped midway in March due to the lockdown.
During a meeting on Monday, the examination committee decided that it will start conducting examinations final-year students August 17 onwards. The duration of the examinations for all courses will be two hours and students would be asked to answer any four questions. AU’s public relations officer Shailendra Mishra said the meeting was chaired by the varsity’s officiating vice-chancellor RR Tewari and was attended by the controller of examination, apart from all deans.
With students being able to travel via different means of transport and being allowed to stay in hostels/delegacy by August first week, the committee decided that AU can go ahead and conduct the examinations in the first phase.
“Students will be allowed to stay in hostels from August 7. In the first phase, AU will conduct examinations for final-year and final semester students of UG and PG courses from August 17. In the next phase, depending upon the number of students, examinations for first and second-year students will be conducted,” said the PRO.
Second year students of BA, BSc, and BCom will not be promoted to the third year but will be allowed to continue attending classes for final year of their course. “The exams will be conducted in between whenever it is feasible and papers can be arranged. The exercise will be carried out during the winter vacation so that the academic calendar is not disturbed. The same process would be followed for conducting examinations for first-year students of the three courses.”

“However, the assessment of students in the practical laboratories will be done on the basis of assignments and viva-voce which can also be arranged in the conferencing mode. As social distancing is to be maintained, the university may conduct the examinations in three shifts and even on Saturdays and Sundays. The number of centres may be increased which will be properly sanitized,” said the PRO.
The assessment of final year students will be done on the basis of the weighted average of the marks obtained in the sessional assessment in the current semester and the overall performance in previous semesters. In the cases where a sessional assessment has not been carried out until now, it will be done by giving assignments to the students. The evaluation of fourth-semester students and the second-semester students will be done in a similar manner as specified above.
For annual examinations for BA/BSc/BCom (III), the weighted average of marks obtained in the previous two years should be considered for their third-year assessment. This relaxation is being provided for the session 2019-20 only in view of the Covid-19 outbreak. The second examination will only be conducted after approval from state and Union governments.
The meeting also decided that the classes for UG and PG courses in offline mode shall only be conducted when it is permitted by the government norms.
