The Osmania University (OU) has received Rs.10 crore fund for integrating teaching and research in the Life Science departments under the Boost to University Interdisciplinary Life Science Departments for Education and Research (BUILDER) programme of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
In a press release on Sunday, OU said the University College of Science departments including Biochemistry, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Zoology, and research centres – Centre for Plant Molecular Biology, and Institute of Genetics have jointly applied for the funding.

The funding which is for five years includes for infrastructure development for teaching and research and research components. The OU Centre for Plant Molecular Biology director Prof. Kandasamy Ulaganathan will be the coordinator of the programme, the university said.
The interdisciplinary research envisaged in the programme is in the advanced areas of Genomics, Therapeutics and Nanotechnology for medical and industrial applications, it added.
