Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kanpur, is going to organise its 53rd convocation on October 22, 2020. This year’s convocation ceremony by IIT Kanpur is going to be one of it’s kind as the entire event will be conducted virtually.
The decision to conduct the convocation virtually has been taken to contain the spread of Covid-19.
IIT Kanpur director, Professor Abhay Karandikar, said, “It will be the first-ever virtual convocation of the Institute,” in his Facebook post on October 20, 2020.

IIT Kanpur convocation 2020: Chief Guest
This year the institution’s alumnus, IBM Chief Executive Officer, Dr Arvind Krishna is going to attend the convocation as the Chief Guest.
Dr Krishna has been a significant asset to IIT Kanpur and has also played an important role in building new markets for IBM.
IIT Kanpur convocation 2020: Number of students
Earlier Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Bombay organised its convocation online. The director of the institute also informed that as many as 2008 undergraduates, postgraduate ad doctoral students will get their degrees and almost 100 medals will be awarded, sent via courier services to their addresses.

IIT Kanpur convocation 2020: Precautions to be taken
The director informed that during the Covid-19 pandemic the institute will be taking special precautions not to allow any crowd at the institute.
“We don’t want to have gathered on campus during the pandemic. Graduating students may log in to take part in the first-ever virtual conversation,” the director said.
