Gujarat NEET UG Counselling 2020: Medical intake cutoffs likely to go up by 33 to 76 marks

Gujarat NEET

The choice-filling for 5,508 seats across all medical degree colleges will begin on Monday and the Admission Committee for Professional Under Graduate Medical Educational Courses (AC-PUGMEC) is expecting a higher NEET cutoff score — an increase of 33 to 76 marks than last year — in six government medical colleges for students across all social categories. This is the highest increase since 2017.

A highly placed official in AC-PUGMEC said in the case of students in the general category, BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad is expected to close admissions at 643 NEET score as against 610 last year. In the case of Vadodara Medical College, the cutoff this year is expected to be at 623 marks, which is 44 marks higher than last year. For MP Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, admissions are expected to close at 586 marks, 66 marks higher than last year.

Dr. Pranay Shah, dean of BJ Medical College, said, “We expect to admit students who score 640 or above in NEET. This cutoff is 30 marks higher than in 2019. Across all social categories, we witnessed NEET scores improving over a few years, making competition tough.”

In the case of SC and ST categories, cutoffs will increase in the range of 47 to 62 marks compared to last year, while for SEBC category students, the cutoff is expected to rise by 61 to 75 marks compared to last year across six government medical colleges. Of the 5,508 medical seats, 4,446 seats are reserved for Gujarat students, 617 seats under the NRI student quota, and 235 seats under the management quota. There are 210 seats for the all-India quota.

AC-PUGMEC sources said the pandemic year gave students enough time to prepare for NEET exams. “NEET exams were held in September, instead of May which gave students enough time. Moreover, the exam was easy compared to previous years.”
