Mumbai: The pandemic has pushed winter exams for several undergraduate students from health science courses almost to summer this year. To ensure students do not overcrowd in colleges during the pandemic, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has split students into two batches.
Exams for over 25,000 first, second, and third-year students from across health science courses, which were scheduled to start from February 24, will now be held from March 23, according to a notification issued by the university on Wednesday. Final-year exams for around 10,000 students will commence from February 24 as planned. Winter exams are held in November-December every year.
“To ensure social distancing, we are planning not to hold examinations for all the classes together. Also, to conduct physical examinations, a lot of resources need to be mobilised – supervisors, internal vigilance squads, etc, and these teachers are also involved in teaching and patient care. The delay is not much, but we are planning to regularise the schedule soon,” said Ajit Pathak, controller of examinations of MUHS, adding the university is planning to hold the summer exams in June, as per the regular schedule. The winter exam for postgraduate students started on January 4.
