The NV Energy Foundation has announced a change in the designation of a gift to the College of Southern Nevada Foundation that will provide hundreds of scholarships and assistance to meet the immediate needs of CSN High School and college students.
The company has a decades-long history of establishing scholarship endowments with the CSN Foundation that has helped fund numerous scholarships. To maximize the immediate impact of these donations, NV Energy will transfer more than $550,000 in endowment funds to provide scholarships to hundreds of students over the next two years that will increase these students’ work readiness and fast track Nevada’s economic recovery.
This funding will also support the CSN Student Emergency Fund helping to meet CSN student need for emergency, short-term financial assistance for non-tuition relief including books, childcare, safety, technology and transportation costs.
“Many of our students have found themselves having to make tough decisions as they deal with financial difficulties during this pandemic,” said CSN President Dr Federico Zaragoza. “The new NV Energy scholarships will allow them to stay in school, select a workforce ready career path and get their degree. NV Energy’s commitment to our students and community is so important.”
“Education and workforce development play an essential role in Nevada’s long-term economic recovery, and NV Energy wanted to do something for CSN that would make a meaningful, positive impact on students who were struggling due to loss of income or other challenges brought on by COVID-19,” said Doug Cannon, NV Energy President and Chief Executive Officer. “The NV Energy Foundation’s gift will be put to use today when students need it the most.”
