As the second wave of Covid-19 has hit the country, leaving a lot of families without breadwinners, the government of Uttarakhand has decided to help the students in education the state who lost their parents due to Covid-19 by providing them with financial aid.
Following the footsteps of several state governments in the country, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Saturday announced a scheme for the education and employment of children who lost their parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The state government will also take care of their education and reserve five percent of government jobs for them under the scheme, it said. The state has reported over three lakh cases and around 5,600 deaths in totality.
States offering free education
In recent news, many state governments have come forward to offer financial aid and free education to children who have lost their parents or guardians due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as the death toll in India has increased significantly in the past month.
One of the first states to do so was Madhya Pradesh, where Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that students who have lost their parents would be provided with free education till graduation level, along with a monthly stipend of Rs 5000.
After Madhya Pradesh, several states such as Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Odisha, and Gujarat have also decided to provide financial aid to students who have been orphaned due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Other relief measures for families hit by Covid-19 have also been announced.
Recently, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to urge the central government to provide free education to the students who have lost their parents due to the pandemic across the country
