Five rising high school seniors from Jacksonville and other Florida cities will receive scholarships from the Jacksonville law firm Farah & Farah.
The scholarship covers tuition, registration and local fees for any of Florida’s 28 2-year colleges, like Florida State College at Jacksonville.
The program is a joint effort between Farah & Farah, Goodwill Industries of Northeast Florida, and Florida Prepaid College Foundation. In a press release, the law firm said its scholarship is inspired by the Reverend Martin Luther King Junior, and is aimed at students in low-income, high-crime neighborhoods who are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty.
“This scholarship program emphasizes the important role that community service plays in helping students develop a lifelong commitment to civic and social responsibility,” said Eddie Farah, Founding Partner of Farah & Farah. “By empowering these students to pursue their education, we also empower them to be active members of their community and help others.”
The review committee includes T-Neisha Tate, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Vice President of Social Responsibility and Impact.
The application portal will be open until September 10 and the scholarship winners will be announced on October 15.
