About Institution:
Govt. Degree College, Tuni was promoted by The Thandava Sugar Cane Growers & the Tuni Commission Merchants Association (T.T.S.C.G. & T.T.C.M.A.) which is strategically important as it is located approximately equidistant from the important cities Rajahmundry and Kakinada. It caters to the needs of higher education to the rural poor within a radius of 30 Kms to Tuni town.
The College was humbly established in the year 1980 with two courses B.A. (HEP) and B.Com with an intake of 30 students each. At this stage, new buildings were constructed. With advent of IT revolution Computer Courses (B.Sc. Computers, B.A. Computers) were started in the college. Further, M.Sc (Computer Science) course was started in the year 2001. Air conditioned Labs were established with as many as 60 systems. To create necessary infrastructure facilities, First floor was constructed to accommodate these Computer courses.
A separate block was sanctioned and constructed for P.G. Course in 2004.
To impart training in Communication, Soft and Employable Skills among the outgoing U.G. students, J.K.C. Extension center is established in 2008. Tapping the U.G.C. funds a women’s hostel is constructed during 2009-2011. The college is maintaining more than 70% pass in all the courses and bringing laurels to its credit. The College is accredited by NAAC at ‘B’ Grade level in 2006 and is gearing up for Reaccreditation by NAAC, Bengaluru in 2011-2012.
