The Indian Institute of Technology, Indore recently launched a new course — BTech in Engineering Physics. IIT Indore will commence admission for BTech in Engineering Physics from the 2023 academic session onwards. Admission to BTech in Engineering Physics will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced Ranking.
Apart from IIT Indore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati and IIT Madras also offer BTech in Engineering Physics. IIT BHU offers a 5 year integrated MTech programme in Engineering Physics.
BTech in Mathematics and Computing – Course structure and seats
This is a four year course spread across eight semesters. Semester 1 comprises a total of 19 credits and semester 2 has a total of 21.5 credits. Semester 3 and semester 4 have a total of 22/25 and 21.5/24.5 credits, respectively. While Semester 5 comprises 19.5/22.5 credits, semester 6 has a total of 22 credits. Semester 7 and semester 8 have a maximum of 18 and 15 credits respectively.
In the fourth year students are required to do two internships which are of one — one credit each. Students are also given a number of elective subjects to choose from in each semester. The elective subjects in Semester 1 and 2 are of one credit each, but other semesters have elective subjects of 2 or 3 credits.
BTech in Mathematics and Computing – Eligibility criteria
Admission to the programme will be done on the basis of JEE Advanced score. Additionally, candidates must have completed class 12 (or equivalent) examination from any recognised state or central board.
BTech in Engineering Physics: Career scope
This subject offers career opportunities in fields like – Medical Physics, Data Science, Nuclear Science and Engineering, Solar Cell Technology, Energy Conversion and Storage, Optoelectronics and Photonics, Quantum Computing and Technology, High Energy and Physics, Detector Technology and Spintronics and Memory Devices.
