Mumbai University Gets New Vice-Chancellor in Ravindra Dattatray Kulkarni

NEW DELHI: The Mumbai University gets new Vice-Chancellor in Dr Ravindra Dattatray Kulkarni. Kulkarni has assumed charge following an order by the Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Universities Ramesh Bais. Dr Suresh Wamangir Gosavi has also been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University.

The new Mumbai University Vice-Chancellor will replace Professor DT Shirke. Shirke completed his graduation from Vivekanand College, Kolhapur (1985) and postgraduation from department of statistics, Shivaji University, Kolhapur (1987). He joined the department of statistics as a CSIR research fellow in 1987, where, subsequently, he joined the department of statistics in 1990 and headed the department of statistics from 2005 to 2015. He has around 30 years of teaching and 35 years of research experience.

The Governor has also announced the appointment of Dr Sanjay Ghanshyam Bhave as new Vice-Chancellor of Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli.

Before being appointed as the Mumbai University VC, Kulkarni has been serving as a senior professor at the Institute of Chemical Technology while Gosavi has served as a senior professor at the Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University. Bhave is the head of the department of Agricultural Botany at Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth.

Mumbai University has a total of 56 departments, 12 specialized centres, 781 affiliated colleges, two main campuses, two sub-campuses, two model colleges, and the ‘School of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ at Kalyan as the University’s own Engineering College.

The university has already started the registration process for its undergraduate programmes. The last to fill Mumbai University registration form 2023 is June 12.
