The School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with the British Council, is welcoming applications for the AHRC CDA doctoral studentship.
This opportunity, provided by the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership, is scheduled to commence in October 2024.

FOCUS AREA AND COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
The studentship will be situated in the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Section within the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Language and Linguistics.
The selected candidate will engage in a collaborative project co-led by Professor Ianthi Tsimpli of the University of Cambridge, Amy Lightfoot (co-supervisor) from the British Council UK, and Dr Debanjan Chakrabarti from the British Council, India.
RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY IN LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE CLASSROOMS
The successful PhD student will conduct original research targeting a critical gap—recognising and destigmatising the use of multiple languages in classrooms within linguistically diverse societies in the Global South.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND BENEFITS
The DTP studentships offer an annual maintenance grant covering living expenses (£18,622 stipend + £550 CDA allowance pa at current rates) and university tuition fees at the home fee level.
Additionally, this CDA allocates dedicated funding to facilitate a period of fieldwork research based at the British Council, India.
For international candidates, the fee gap between home and overseas rates will be managed through internal co-funding by the university.
