IIT Madras Invites Applications for Over 720 Online Certification Courses

IIT Madras SRIHER introduce MD PhD Dual Degree programme

IIT Madras, under the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), has announced the opening of applications for over 720 online certification courses for the January – April 2024 semester.

The last date for enrolment is February 1, 2024. This marks 20 years of NPTEL’s operation and 10 years of offering certifications. In these years, NPTEL has catered to over 30 lakh learners from various academic fields, like Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management.

NPTEL is the largest online learning programme in India, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Education. Enrolments can be done for free online via the SWAYAM and NPTEL platforms. The platform has a vast user base with more than 2.5 crore learners enrolled till now.

All learners have the option of taking a certification examination for a fee of Rs 1,000.

As NPTEL Coordinator, Professor Andrew Thangaraj from IIT Madras highlights, NPTEL offers large-scale online education that is both affordable and certified. The expansive course catalogue provides learners with the opportunity to advance their skills and, subsequently, their career prospects.

Having completed the preceding semester with 690 courses and over 6.75 lakh exam takers, NPTEL looks forward to even more robust semesters ahead. The upcoming semester will also mark an important milestone in the history of the programme, as it enters its 20th year of operations.

NEW COURSES INTRODUCED BY NPTEL

The new semester offers a range of new courses, such as Research Methodology for Planning and Architectural Studies, Computational Genomics, Structural Vibration, Applied Statistical Thermodynamics, Games and Information, and Experimental Robotics.

NPTEL also offers certain courses in collaboration with ANSYS, that allow learners to earn industry-recognized badges on completing ANSYS innovation courses.

NPTEL’s impact has been far-reaching, with over 66,000 faculty members having enrolled for various courses in the year 2023 as part of their Faculty Development Programme. The platform also facilitated 321 internships and placements for NPTEL toppers at premier institutions in the last year. To support learners from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, fee waiver support is also offered by NPTEL through CSR partners.

Additionally, NPTEL has also launched NPTEL plus, a portal offering flexible, self-paced courses and short-term programmes in the online mode.
