To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen residing in India
  • be between 25 and 45 years of age

Benefits

A total of 15-20 scholars will receive £1,750 (one-time) towards the costs of their stay in the UK. The funding is usually enough for about three weeks.

Note:-

  • The grants are payable in the UK and do not cover international travel costs.
  • The grantees will also be expected to cover their travel costs within India and are required to obtain the appropriate level of insurance coverage for travel and medical emergencies.
  • Applicants planning to stay in the UK for more than three weeks are required to supplement the CWIT grant with other funding e.g. a grant from the Indian Council for Historical Research.
  • CWIT offers limited financial support to Indian doctoral students nearing completion at UK universities who plan to return to India. These small grants (£700) aim to bridge funding gaps but require applicants to demonstrate additional income or financial backing from other sources.

  • A photograph of the applicant (in jpeg, jpg, or png format)
  • Emergency name and contact details in India
  • A clear statement of what the applicant wants to achieve in the UK, and for academic researchers what sources the applicant wishes to consult- be as specific as possible (in not more than 2-3 pages)
  • An indication of how much time the applicant wishes to spend in the UK- remember the CWIT grant is reckoned to be sufficient for about 3 weeks
  • Names and addresses of two referees who know the applicant’s work well and who have agreed to be referees
