National Institute of Technology (NIT) Trichy has been granted the status of mentor institute to 14 engineering institutions in the region.
This is as part of the Margdarshan (share and mentor institutions) scheme — an initiative by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) — to guide and disseminate knowledge to mentee institutions.
The purpose of the scheme is to conduct faculty development programmes, national level workshops, guest lectures and other activities for the technical upliftment of member Institutions in terms of teaching-learning process.
AICTE has sanctioned a grant of Rs 30 lakh under this project for a duration of three years. Speaking during the launch of the programme, NIT-T director Mini Shaji Thomas said the endeavour was meant to contribute towards the improvement of technical education.
“This scheme will help motivate the students to come up with innovative ideas and widen the exposure to the prototype development on enhanced educational standards and research aptitude,” she said.
