NEW DELHI: Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia in a letter to Delhi University vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh asked him to cancel interviews for permanent faculty scheduled for 28 DU colleges that are fully or partially funded by the Delhi government.
Manish Sisodia in a letter dated February 16 informed the DU VC that the interview was being held without the Delhi government’s consent. “Several of these 28 colleges do not have a full-fledged governing body and at present are governed by a truncated body without representation from GNCTD (Government of NCT of Delhi).” “I understand the importance of conducting interviews for filling up important teaching posts but any financial decision taken for these colleges creates a financial implication on GNCTD as well,” he said.
“Therefore, scheduled interviews must be cancelled with immediate effect,” the letter read. Sisodia in the letter also said that any financial decision, including hiring for permanent posts, should not be taken without the approval of a full-fledged governing body. “In light of the importance of filling up teaching positions, the process for forming governing bodies in 28 GNCTD colleges shall be expedited. Any decision with financial implications, including on hiring for the permanent posts in the colleges, must be taken after approval from a fully functioning governing body,” he said. The letter comes after some of the 28 DU colleges, including Swami Shraddhanand college, were interviews were held from February 16.
Earlier this month, teachers, students and non-teaching staff of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, one of the 12 constituent colleges of University of Delhi which is fully funded by the Delhi government, staged protest over non-payment of regular salaries and other dues for the past three years.
