I always enjoyed puzzle solving, logical reasoning and Mathematics. Since everyone told me to take up a course that you enjoy studying the most, I decided to study Maths for my higher education. I cracked JEE Main and JEE Advanced in 2o21 I secured AIR 2035 in JEE Main and AIR 1773 in JEE Advanced. I chose BTech in Mathematics and Computing at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati after going through the curriculum provided at both IIT-Delhi and Guwahati.
As I hail from Siliguri, getting admission in a nearby IIT was like cherry on the cake.
There are three more components of my branch — Mathematics, Computer Science and Financial Engineering. I enjoy studying, especially discreet Mathematics, number theory, algorithm, probability and more.
The classes are usually held from 9 am to 1 pm, then there are labs from 2 pm to 5 pm. Lab practicals are generally held three days a week. After classes, I mostly hang out with my friends or work on any projects, study or work for the fest if that is around the corner.
Most people in college including me and my friends hang out at Khokha, a place outside the campus with food options. Being a chai lover myself, I enjoy their ginger tea a lot. The other hangout spots include Lohit canteen which is quite huge and therefore, many students hang out there. The Students Activities Centre is also a popular hang out spot with a lot of eateries. The club rooms are a major attraction of SAC. We also hang out at the terrace of our hostel, Dhansiri.
Apart from eateries and hang out spots, there are also a lot of sports to play both at old SAC and separate. The old SAC has table tennis, swimming pool and athletics ground. There is a separate hockey ground, cricket ground, lawn tennis court and badminton court.
The campus is quite huge, it’s nearly 700 acres and has various hostels, game rooms, gyms, libraries and more. We also have a central library and central gym. There is a gym which is only for girls. All the facilities are well-maintained and up to date.
We rarely go outside the campus as not only it is huge but has everything we need. It is very beautiful. However, if we feel the need to go out sometimes, we take a ferry and cross River Brahmaputra. There is another way as well but the ferry route is more affordable and beautiful.
There are a lot of clubs at IIT. I am a part of the anchoring, entrepreneurship, consulting and analytics clubs. I was in the organising team of Udgam, our annual entrepreneurship summit of IIT Guwahati. I also hosted an online interview during Techniche, our technology fest. I interviewed renowned physicist and author Lawrence Krauss.
Living here for the past two years, I have adjusted to the campus life. I do not miss home as much as I used to an year back. I have friends and various activities to keep me busy. In fact, I feel we are fortunate to attend offline classes.
