SC Issues Notice on Plea for Extension of NEET PG 2023 Counselling to Fill Vacant Seats

NEW DELHI: Supreme Court has issued a notice to the officials while hearing a plea seeking NEET PG stray vacancy round counselling 2023 to fill vacant seats. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) declared the NEET PG final stray vacancy round allotment result on October 16.

The apex court was hearing a plea filed by Tamil Nadu Self-financing Medical Colleges Association. It sought directions for extension of NEET PG counselling to fill the unclaimed and vacant seats. The association claimed that thousands of NEET PG seats will remain vacant in medical colleges across the country if another stray round is not conducted, the Live Law reported.

The bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra said that the matter will be considered after taking a note of the number of seats lying vacant throughout the country. The matter will be next heard on November 24, the report said.

The MCC has extended the NEET PG counselling 2023 several times this year. There were four rounds of counselling. The MCC notified 2,963 state-wise clear vacancy list for the stray round. As per the MCC NEET PG final round counselling allotment result, a total of 2,858 candidates were allotted seats. The selected candidates were allowed to report to the allotted colleges by an extended period of October 25.

Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) had earlier claimed that 9,700 PG seats were reportedly vacant in the last three years. Several other doctors’ groups also demanded a reduction in the cut-off. Following this, for the first time the health ministry reduced the NEET PG cut-off to zero.
