Students’ choice of selecting a university abroad depends heavily on employability opportunities. Every year “The Times Higher Education” releases ranking lists for universities around the world. The ranking is based on 13 performance indicators that measure the institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
The list is prepared after compiling answers of several recruiters, chief executives and business managers from top companies in 20 countries.

National University of Córdoba
National University of Córdoba, established in 1613, is one of Latin America’s oldest and most prestigious universities. Founded as the first university in what is now Argentina, it is often known as “La Docta,” which means “The Wise”. Situated in Córdoba, in the Córdoba Province, it is now the second largest university in Argentina, after the University of Buenos Aires.
UNC is free and secular. It is financially dependent on the national government but has autonomy to manage its budget, choose its authorities and dictate its own rules in accordance with the national level. Its origin goes back to 1610 when the Jesuits established the Collegium Maximum (Maximum School).
During its first two centuries of life, UNC offered three senior studies: philosophy, theology and later law. The UNC has 13 faculties offering nearly 300 undergraduate and graduate degrees. There are also 100 academic research centres and services, 25 libraries and 16 museums.
UNC is home to an astronomical observatory, which was Argentina’s first scientific institution and is now used for the university’s educational and research purposes.
The university’s pharmaceutical laboratory was established in 1963 and specialises in the development and commercialisation of products made from human plasma. It is South America’s largest fractionation plant and supplies the continent with medicines at a low cost, as well as exporting plasma to 10 Latin American countries.
On campus facilities include an indoor gymnasium, sports hall and a 12-hectare sports field for 25 different sports including hockey, volleyball, rugby and handball.
The National University of Cuyo is the largest centre for higher education in the Mendoza province in Argentina.
Mendoza is a stunning combination of mountains and vineyards where you can enjoy the snow-capped mountain peaks while sipping a glass of local wine. Although the city has a European feel with its lakes, nightlife and bistros, adventure tourism with snowboarding, skiing, biking, paragliding, horse-riding, fishing, climbing, hiking and rafting in the nearby Andes is available.
The university, which was established in 1939, has 12 faculties including arts and plastic design, engineering, economic sciences, exact and natural sciences, medicine, social and political sciences, law, dentistry, humanities, agricultural sciences, elementary and special needs education and applied sciences. The school offers different masters degrees and PhDs in energy, engineering and physics. The university also houses the Balseiro Institute, which is the most developed institute of physics research in Argentina, located in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche in the province of Río Negro.
UNCuyo’s mission is to improve education in Argentina, an objective that the university has succeeded in achieving through offering technical education in four other cities in Mendoza and operating seven buildings as high schools.
If you have a passion for artistic and cultural activities then the university has plenty to offer you. Not only does the university have its own choir, wind quintet, cinema and symphony orchestra, but also a grand theatre where the university ballet performances are held. The university provides recreational programmes to improve the students’ quality of life including swimming, mountaineering, judo, artistic skating, yoga, trekking and acrobatics.
National University of San Martín
The National University of San Martín (Universidad Nacional de San Martín or UNSAM) was set up in 1992 and officially began giving classes in 1994. This Argentine public national university is mostly located in the city of San Martín, a province of Buenos Aires. Its main site is Campus Miguelere, which is 8.5 hectares in area.
It is built around former railway lines and train repair shop buildings and it has become a privileged space for teaching, research, cultural development and social interaction among members of UNSAM’s community.
It has developed strong, research-led partnerships with a range of leading universities in the world. UNSAM has signed nearly 400 international agreements, which have resulted in various research projects, as well as students and teachers’ exchange programmes. The university is constantly open to new partnerships based on academic exchanges, teaching, joint research projects, special programmes and innovation with universities and institutions.
It has approximately 17,000 students and 1,400 academic staff members, working and learning across 10 academic units and five schools: the school of science and technology, the school of economics and business, the school of humanities, the school of politics and government and the postgraduate school. It also has five institutes: the Institute of Technology, the Institute of Biotechnological Research, the National Institute of Industrial Quality, the Institute of Rehabilitation and Movement Sciences and the Institute of High Studies.
San Martín is the administrative seat of General San Martín Partido and is a heavily urbanised area, home to numerous food processing industries, as well as to a large Peugeot-Citroën auto factory.
National University of the South
The National University of the South is the largest national higher educational institution in Southern Argentina, in the city of Bahia Blanca in Buenos Aires. Established in 1956 with a motto meaning “through the difficulties to the truth”, this university has undergone several changes. Initially it was absorbed by the Technological Institute of the South, a former affiliate of the National University of La Plata before becoming the seventh national university created in the country.
The new institution organised its academic structure into departments offering programmes to more than 20,000 undergraduate students and about 1,300 graduate students. Currently, UNS has 16 different departments offering degrees in the fields of agronomy, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, electrical engineering, engineering, geography, geology, humanities, law, management, mathematics, medicine and physics.
The main university complex located at Alem 1253, houses the central library as well as most of the departments and laboratories. There are other buildings at the same premises: At the intersection of 12 de Octubre and San Juan streets, are the buildings for the departments of humanities, economics, geography and tourism, and administration sciences. Meanwhile, in the area known as “Altos del Palihue” there is another complex where the departments of agronomy and law are located.
If you’re curious about the town itself – Bahia Blanca means “White Bay”, a name given to the estuary due to the typical color of the salt covering the soil surrounding the shores. Ferdinand Magellan saw the bay during his first navigation journey in 1520. The city itself is a thriving and dynamic city with an architecture that features high-inherited value.
