A multipurpose wall-climbing robot using duct fan mechanism for crack inspection of concrete structures has got a patent which was invented by the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET).
When compared to existing wall climbing mechanisms, it gives fast movement and also it’s better in load-bearing capacity. The robot can advance both the floor also as on the wall like a normal four-wheeled vehicle.
Praveen Sekhar said that,”The inspection work of giant concrete structures are often made faster and accurate using this wireless wall climbing robot rather than the tedious way for workers reaching there to examine.” And one of the student of the team developed the prototype.

“The movement of the robot and therefore the working of the payload are often monitored with someone sitting at a distance of 1 km with a private computer or maybe recorded and analysed at a later stage”,Said by Praveen Sekhar.
The prototype is available at the Electronics and Communication Department of College of Engineering, Trivandrum and its in a working condition.

In added to this Praveen Sekhar said that”It was done as part of a final year engineering project in 2014. In the year 2013-14, one among the social causes bothering us was the stability of Mullaperiyar Dam. In the dam for cracks developed or other damages, there was no low-cost mechanism available to inspect the surface. This gave us an great idea to make something which may be used to the climb the walls of the dam and captured images on a regular basis which may be processed to stay a check on the dam and also for correct reporting of its stability.”
Now, the team that developed the robot is exploring product Commercialization possibilities.
