PATNA: Nalanda Open University (NOU) will start new courses in English, Maithili and Bhojpuri at undergraduate and postgraduate level from the next academic session from July this year.
The NOU has taken this decision to fulfil the needs of a large number of aspirants who have been making inquiries for a long time, NOU registrar Prof P K Verma said.
According to Prof Verma, the NOU has worked out details of these courses, which include syllabus and study programme. In addition to English, Maithili and Bhojpuri languages have been included keeping in view demands at the state level competitive examinations also. Besides, English has its own importance and recognition at the global level in any field of competitive examinations, he said. NOU is the second largest open university in the country after Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) having about 1.25 lakh students on the roll. It has 220 study centres in the state only to cater to the needs of desirous students, he said, adding NOU, which is functioning from its rented building in Patna, is likely to get its own campus in Nalanda soon.
